Villbrygg Fjell 01
Villbrygg Fjell 01
The Fjell is Villbrygg's "Red Wine", though it isn't really trying to be that, and that's what makes it cool.
The base is wild-harvested lingonberry from the Norwegian Highlands, which gives it a deep magenta color with lively bubbles -- akin to a dark Lambrusco, not Reunite but a good one. The botanicals add complexity: lemongrass, rosemary, and birch leaves weave through the berry fruit. The rosemary is the most obvious component on the nose, and it gives the beverage a Southern Rhone vibe. The palate is pleasantly tart with just enough residual sugar to keep it in balance.
Pour it with lamb, cassoulet, or a good pizza — anything you'd reach for a medium-bodied red with some grip. Strong enough to handle the table, fun enough to not need an occasion.
